What are Telecenters?

Telecentres are public access points for ICT resources. Some telecentres are commercially run. These usually offer limited services (like telephone) that generate profits. Commercial “cybercafes” are usually restricted to urban centres. By contrast, donor-funded centres, usually located in remote, impoverished, or rural areas, tend to offer a wide range of services like radio, fax, computers, e-mail and web. Although donor-funded centres are undertaken to service specific developmental objectives, few have proven to be sustainable to date
